Back City to sink Saints
Andrew Hughes thinks Manchester City will get their title defence back on track on Saturday and help land a cross-sport multiple in the process.
Betfair now gives you the facility to mix and match your multiples across a huge range of sports and markets with the easy-to-use betslip and so each weekend I've been putting together a cross-sport treble with the aim of showing the way to maximise your profits.
Bet 1: Back Manchester City to beat Southampton at 1.66
The Premier League season is two-thirds done and if Manchester City are going to close the gap on their title rivals, they need to start soon. After four dropped points in their last two games, they are badly in need of a win.
They won't have it easy at St Mary's. The sacking of Nigel Adkins has not halted their recovery and under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, they have put in some creditable performances against Everton, Manchester United and Wigan.
But although City are not at their fluent best, they have an excellent record against lowly Premier League opposition, having won nine of their ten matches against teams currently in the bottom eight. They have enough attacking options to unpick the home defence and should be able to pick up all three points.
Bet 2: Back Scotland to beat Italy at 1.54
Italy's victory over tournament favourites France grabbed the headlines on the first weekend of the Six Nations, but the Italians have made quiet progress under Jacques Brunel and we know the French can lose to anyone on their day.
Fly-half Luciano Orquera orchestrated the Italian effort and they showed that they have added some dynamism in the back division to their traditional strength up front. But the passionate Rome crowd helped spur them on and it remains to be seen whether they can show the same kind of fluency away from home.
Scotland showed some promise in their defeat by England, most notably in crossing the try line twice, something they only managed four times in the whole of last year's competition. Italy have only won once in ten visits to Murrayfield and I think they'll come up short again on Saturday against their perennial wooden spoon rivals.
Bet 3: Back Fago to win the 2:40 at Warwick at 1.8
Six horses will line up for this Grade Two Arkle Trial but only three of them have entries in the Festival race and only two have realistic chances.
Tom George's seven-year-old Majala struggled in three outings over fences last season, but has thrived since dropping back in trip to two miles, winning both his races in this campaign, the latest by a comfortable eight lengths at Haydock.
Strictly on form, Majala has the beating of odds-on favourite Fago. But Paul Nicholls' five-year-old looked a classy animal on his British debut at Newbury last month and had a better record in France than Majala. His Excellency is the other Arkle entrant, but he hasn't come on since his win at Cheltenham in October and Fago, with more to come, should have too much class for this field.
