ATP Sony Open Betting: Haas to continue golden run against Simon

ATP Masters 1000

Sean Calvert enjoyed a good day's tipping at the Sony Open yesterday and he fancies Tommy Haas to back up his stunning win over Novak Djokovic by defeating Gilles Simon tonight..

It was a profitable day of tennis betting at the 2013 Sony Open on Tuesday, with both of my recommended wagers proving successful and my outright tournament tip going odds-on.

Firstly, Richard Gasquet edged a marathon three setter against Nico Almagro in a final set tie break after blowing set points in the opener and having to come from a set down to win it. The Gasman also blew a *4-3 lead in the final set before a nervy Almagro wilted in the tie break.

Then straight after that Andy Murray overcame his 5.5 game handicap against Andreas Seppi to land our second bet, although that too wasn't without its anxieties as Murray's patchy performance made for nervous viewing for punters.

The forehand was very questionable at times and the Scot still seems a bit off form, but he did enough against typically feeble resistance from the Italian.

But Tommy Haas's stunning win over Novak Djokovic last night opened up the outright betting, where my tip Murray is now a 1.9 shot.

The first of the quarter finals take place today and at 1am it's Haas taking on Gilles Simon.

I suffered watching most of Simon vs Janko Tipsarevic last night and it was the usual tactic from Gilles of toughing it out and waiting for the opponent to miss, which was tedious in the extreme.

Haas was inspired against Djokovic, although the Serb was really poor and threw in 30 unforced errors - Tommy won't be getting that from Simon tonight.

But Haas does like the kind of ball that he'll get from Simon and he's proven that by winning four of the five career meetings with the Frenchman, the latest of which was at the Rogers Cup last summer.

Having tipped Simon and backed him at 500.0 last week at Indian Wells I'll be sour if he makes the final here in Miami and surely his defensive pushing won't prevail tonight if Haas is on his game.

Simon is not the most difficult player to break and Tipsarevic had 14 chances to do so last night, but could take only three of his opportunities. I expect Haas to be more ruthless and I'll take the German minus 2.5 games on the handicap at around 1.9.
