ATP Miami Masters Betting: Blake to roll back the years against Ramos

ATP Masters 1000

Another poor effort from Bernard Tomic has annoyed tennis expert Sean Calvert, who is backing James Blake to show vintage form at the Sony Open tonight...

I said yesterday that Bernard Tomic's level of play varies wildly and he proved that point perfectly on Saturday night when after a really good start the Aussie dropped like a stone and drew boos from the Miami crowd as he pretty much gave up against Andy Murray.

Bizarrely, Tomic blamed his pathetic second set showing on a virus that he claimed to have caught by sleeping under the air conditioning and claimed that he had no energy. But for me it's another example of the enigma that is Bernard Tomic.

The men's third round matches begin today at Crandon Park and amongst those in action on Sunday are world number one Novak Djokovic.

The Serb takes on Somdev Devvarman and it would be a huge shock if the Indian player were able to inflict much of a blow upon Nole and I prefer getting behind American veteran James Blake in his clash with Albert Ramos.

Blake plays way above himself in these sort of tournaments on home soil in the USA and he's yet to drop a set in this tournament, having brushed aside Julien Benneteau and Ryan Harrison in straight sets already this week.

The 33-year-old still possesses a crushing forehand and if his backhand remains solid and he's on his game he can still play to a very high level on his day.

Ramos has already discovered this to his cost once before when the Spaniard lost to Blake on a hard court in straight sets in Winston Salem at the end of last season and a confident Blake is always likely to come out on top in these conditions.

I watched Ramos last week against Marin Cilic at Indian Wells and he crumbled after losing a first set in which he was the better player and I can see a similar sort of situation occurring again in this match unless Ramos gets on top early.

Blake knows he doesn't have many more opportunities left to go deep into a Masters 1000 and if he gets past Ramos he'll face the winner of Jurgen Melzer and Tobias Kamke for a place in the quarter finals.

I expect Blake to roll back the years and overpower Ramos and he looks a good bet at around 1.58.

Recommended Bet

Back Blake to beat Ramos at 1.58 4/7
