Arsenal to enjoy another second-half burst
Michael Lintorn has explored the Opta stats and been inspired to make four Premier League weekend bets...
Tottenham v Newcastle (Saturday, 12:45, Sky Sports 2)
Newcastle have lost each of their last three Premier League trips to White Hart Lane without scoring a single goal
Newcastle's French signing-inspired awakening from their comatose state with successive wins is admirable but, as their victims were out-of-sorts Aston Villa and Chelsea, it is too early to declare their troubles over. This is their first test against a team ticking along nicely, with Spurs unbeaten in nine league games and conceding just four goals in that sequence.
Recommended Bet: Back Tottenham to win to nil @ 3.55
Sunderland v Arsenal (Saturday, 15:00)
If only second-half performances were taken into account, Arsenal would be second in the Premier League table, behind Man City on goals scored alone (49 points each)
Arsenal's Jekyll-and-Hyde approach to the two halves looks a perfect companion for a half-time/full-time flutter. They haven't led at the interval in any of their last 11 matches in all competitions, being level in eight, yet have outscored the opposition after the break in each of the past six. Sunderland by contrast have "lost the second half" of three of their last four fixtures.
Recommended Bet: Back the half-time draw/full-time Arsenal win @ 5.3
Swansea v QPR (Saturday, 15:00)
Gerhard Tremmel has saved the highest percentage of opposition shots on target of any 'keeper in the top flight (81.7%)
Swansea are likely to be without Michel Vorm once more against QPR but are fortunate enough to have one of the Premier League's most reliable reserve goalkeepers too. Opta also reveal that the German possesses the best time-per-save ratio in the division too with one every 21 minutes. QPR have scored just twice in six league games and are expected to be missing star striker Loic Remy.
Recommended Bet: Back Swansea to keep a clean sheet @ 2.52
Manchester United v Everton (Sunday, 16:00, Sky Sports 1)
Manchester United have recovered more points from losing positions than any other team in the top flight this season (27)
The Manchester United win from behind bet has doubtless been one of 2012/13's most popular and there is enough evidence to suggest that it is worth another play. Everton are among the Premier League's most careless league squanderers, surrendering seven advantages for a combined 16-point loss. Opta also note that they often strike early, with a league-high first-half goal proportion of 58%.
Recommended Bet: Back Manchester United to win from behind @ 6.0
