Against All Odds: We can't have Cercle Brugge at odds-on

22Dec 2012

Belgium

Cercle Brugge are bottom of the Belgian Jupiler League yet they are odds-on for their clash with Waasland-Beveren, something which Paul Robinson can't understand.

Yesterday was a strange one, that's for sure. A winner today will make up for it though.

Cercle Brugge are having a dreadful campaign and they find themselves rock bottom with 13 points after 20 games played. They have conceded a whopping 42 goals to  date, which is the worst record in the entire division. The Green and Black are without a victory in four and they had two men sent off in their last match.

Foeke Booy faces a tough task to keep them out of the relegation play-off zone and their home form will be key for the rest of the year. They are undefeated at the Jan  Breydel Stadium in four, however only two of those were wins and not so long ago they lost four in a row, scoring just one goal.

Waasland-Beveren were promoted to the top flight after finishing second in the Second Division last term. Glen De Boeck's men have made a satisfactory start to life with  the big boys, 13th place with 20 points, which is three clear of the relegation places.

Beveren come into this match with their tails up; two victories in a row, including an impressive 2-0 win at Gent. In fact they've won their last three on the road, keeping two  clean sheets and conceding just a single goal in the other.

Club Brugge may have a richer pedigree than their opponents but it is current form what I'm interested in. They are rock bottom and despite having home advantage, I simply  can't have them at around the 1.81 mark and that's why I'm making them my lay of the day.
