Against All Odds: Underestimate Botafogo SP at your peril

Botafogo SP haven't been given much of a chance by the Betfair markets for their clash with Palmeiras in the Brazilian Paulista A1 tonight but Paul Robinson thinks  they shouldn't be written off.

Palmeiras are sixth in the Paulista A1 after a dozen games and it is likely that they'd want to put some more daylight between them and ninth place in order to secure  qualification for the Final Series. They have only lost once so far, but with just five victories, they don't quite have enough points to stop looking over their  shoulder.

Gilson Kleina's men have been pretty deadly at home recently; four wins on the bounce, conceding just one goal. They were held to a 0-0 draw with Bragantino earlier in  the campaign though and they followed that up with a 3-2 defeat to Penapolense, so they aren't completely bomb-proof at Estádio Palestra Itália.

Botafogo SP are up in fourth but with only one more point than tonight's opponents, they also still need to pick up a few more victories. A draw would be fine in this  one though as it is a tricky away trip and it would maintain their positional advantage over their rivals.

Avoiding defeat is something that Little Bota have managed to do for the most part on the road. They've lost just one of their last five with the sole loss being a  seven goal thriller at Mirassol. Botafogo will also take heart from the fact that they drew 0-0 on their last visit to this ground.

Palmeiras are the most likely winners but I don't think their odds reflect their chance. They have drawn a lot of games and I wouldn't be confident about backing at  1.66, which is why I'm making them my lay of the day.
