Against All Odds: Sedan to battle on till the bitter end
It's Dijon against Sedan in Ligue Two this evening and Paul Robinson thinks that despite their odds-on quote, the home side are vulnerable.
Dijon are desperately trying to earn their way back into the top flight of French football following last season's relegation, but they're now five points adrift of the promotion places with just four games to go. They've simply dropped too many points in recent weeks - four draws out of five - and in truth, that's been the story of their campaign.
Olivier Dall'Oglio's side have only lost seven times this term - a record only bettered by the top two - but they've drawn a total of 14 times, which is roughly 41% of their fixtures. Of the teams in the top half, only Auxerre and Tours have won fewer games and that will ultimately be the reason why they're playing at this level again next season.
Sedan are in a relegation battle that they're seemingly set to lose. Sitting in 19th place, they are two places and five points adrift of safety. They have rallied in recent weeks and they do have a better goal difference than the teams around them but you just feel they have too much to do.
Nevertheless, Laurent Guyot's men are unbeaten in four and have lost just two of their last 10. During that run they've picked up results against numerous top half sides, including league leaders Monaco last time out. They've drawn their last three away from Stade Louis Dugauguez and they defeated their opponents on their last visit to this ground in the Coup de France, back in November.
Sedan are battling for their lives and given recent results, I think Dijon are a touch too short at 1.93, which is why I have to make them my lay of the day.
