Against All Odds: Points to be shared in Clermont

10May 2013

Ligue 2

Clermont host Chateauroux in a French Ligue Two game that they could do with winning to ease their relegation fears, but Paul Robinson thinks their home woes will continue.

Clermont are 15th in the table with 38 points - three clear of the drop zone with three games remaining. It's tight at the bottom of Ligue Two as four clubs look to be doing battle to avoid going down with the all-ready relegated Ajaccio and the soon to be relegated Sedan.

Victory for Régis Brouard's side would likely ensure their survival but they've won just one of their last 11 at home, losing two of the last four. They did win last time out in a shock 1-0 victory at second place Nantes, but I wouldn't back them to follow that up - especially at odds-on.

Chateauroux have eased their own relegation issues by picking up seven points from a possible nine to move into mid-table. They beat Niort and Nimes at home and earned a creditable draw at Auxerre - conceding just a single goal in the process.

La Berri had been on a dreadful run away from Stade Gaston Petit - six defeats on the spin - but they've bounced back from that with three successive draws, two of which came against clubs in the top half of the division. Didier Tholot's men haven't won away since March 2012, but they've avoided defeat in over 50% of their league matches on the road this term.

Clermont will be on a high following the win at Nantes but they are a pretty poor side and I don't have much confidence in them. I'd argue that they'd probably settle for a point here knowing that they are still to face Niort at home on the final day of the season, so with that in mind, at 1.98, I have to make them my lay of the day.
