Against All Odds: Groningen too short for Dutch clash
Groningen are odds-on for their clash with Zwolle in the Dutch Eredivisie this evening but with the away side in decent form, Paul Robinson thinks they have to be opposed.
Groningen are 10th in the league after picking up 26 points from their opening 23 fixtures. They had been on a bad run of one point from five matches but they recently managed back to back victories over AZ and RKC Waalwijk, although that rally ended last time out with a 2-0 loss at Vitesse.
Scoring goals has been the problem for Robert Maaskant's side this term as with 22 in the for column, they have the lowest total in the division. They've fired two blanks in their last three at their home of Euroborg and won just three of 11 matches there this season.
Zwolle were promoted to the top flight after romping to victory in the second tier last year. After a shaky start to life with the big boys that saw them lose eight of their first dozen matches, Art Langeler's men have begun to climb the table and now find themselves above the relegation zone in 15th.
The Bluefingers have fell to defeats only twice in their last 11 and in their last couple of fixtures they held third placed Twente, and beat fourth placed Feyenoord. They went down to their first loss in five on the road last time, although the score was level at 0-0 till Joost Broerse gave away a penalty and saw red.
This looks like a relatively evenly matched game so even with home advantage taken into account, I still think that Groningen are too short at 1.95 and that's why I'm making them my lay of the day.
