Against All Odds: Fans in for a treat of goals at Maastricht

Maastricht take on Volendam in the Dutch Jupiler League this evening and Paul Robinson thinks we could be in for a thriller.

Sparta Rotterdam's win yesterday meant that Maastricht have dropped to second place in the table, however they have two games in hand over their rivals and even just a  draw tonight would see them go back to the top. Given that MVV have lost only once this term, it's pretty likely to happen.

It's goals we're interested in though and René Trost's team are usually good for them. With 36 scored and 18 conceded from 16 fixtures thus far, their matches have  been averaging 3.38 goals each time. Seven of the 16 have gone over 3.5, four of which have come during their last half dozen home league games.

Volendam have shown improved form this year under new boss, Hans de Koning, and last season's 12th placed finishers are up in sixth, just seven points off the top.  They can be a bit unpredictable, sometimes looking very good or sometimes looking very bad, but one thing that is a constant is that their matches usually produce  plenty of goals.

The Other Oranje, as they're affectionately known, have netted 34 goals so far this year, a stat which is only bettered by the top two in the league. They have shipped  27 goals themselves though, giving their games an average of 3.39 goals per 90 minutes. Eight of their 18 fixtures have gone over 3.5, including four of their last  six, and both of their last two on the road.

This match up surely has goals written all over it and the value definitely appears to be in opposing under 3.5 at around the 1.66 mark. That's just too short for my money, and that's why I'm making it my lay of the day.
