Against All Odds: Don't back, lay Angers
After a winning tip in France last night, Paul Robinson stays there for today's selection as he believes that Angers are too short for their Ligue Two clash with Niort.
Angers have made a promising start to their season and they find themselves in fourth place with 22 points from 13 matches. They have been favoured by the fixture list though, playing seven matches at home already with an eighth on the agenda tonight.
Stéphane Moulin's side have improved from last year though and that has largely been down to Claudiu Keserü's form of 10 goals in all competitions so far, which already exceeds his total for the 2011/12 campaign.
After four successive victories, les scoïstes have won just one of their last four however, and while they have won four times at Jean-Bouin Stadium, they are far from bomb proof which is evidenced by their defeats to Guingamp, Istres and Monaco.
Niort are back in Ligue Two for the first time since 2008 and they have made a solid, if not spectacular, start in their quest to remain there. It's clear that Pascal Gastien's method is to make his team incredibly hard to beat, so although they've won just two of 12, they've only lost three times.
If you look at the defeats in more detail, you will see that while they all came away from Stade René Gaillard, they were all only narrow 1-0's, with the goals coming in the 90th, 88th and 87th minute. This is making me think that Betfair's 'Cash Out' feature might be worth using if the scores are level going into the last few minutes as there is nothing worse than a late goal to lose you your bet.
Niort appear to have been underestimated by the market for this one as even though they are a promoted side and near the foot of the table, they are by no mean pushovers. Angers seem a bit too short for the win at 1.94 and that's why I'm making them my lay of the day.
