Against All Odds: Cheese Farmers at odds-on? Brie Serious!
The struggling AZ Alkmaar take on ADO Den Haag in the Dutch Eredivisie this evening and Paul Robinson thinks that the hosts are far too short at long odds-on.
AZ are having a shocking campaign and last year's fourth placed finishers are languishing down in 15th, clear of the relegation zone on goal difference only. The Cheese Farmers are in dire need of a few wins but their recent form doesn't offer much hope as they've picked up just one point from a possible 15 in the league.
Gertjan Verbeek's side did manage to knock out Ajax in the Cup but the defending champions rested the likes of Christian Eriksen and Siem de Jong. It's not as if AZ have been solid at home lately either as their fans have seen them record just one victory from their last nine attempts in the league at the AFAS Stadion.
ADO Den Haag have been much improved this term and that is reflected in their eighth place position. They have a five point gap over Groningen in ninth, with a game in hand. That gives them a great shot of finishing in the Europa League Play-off positions, which would be a huge achievement given that they were 15th last season.
Maurice Steijn's men have collected 10 points from a possible 12 lately and while three of those matches were at home, they did earn a creditable draw at Ajax after leading for most of the game. What is impressive about ADO is that they rarely lose - six defeats all season - with five of them coming against top six sides.
AZ have dominated the head to head record in recent times but they really are in disarray at the moment and ADO Den Haag are flying. I'm not saying that they won't win, but there is no way that they deserve to be priced up at around the 1.58 mark, and that's why I'm making them my lay of the day.
