Against All Odds: Charlton to stay afloat at Hull
Charlton make the journey north to Hull this afternoon and while their odds suggest that the trip will prove fruitless, Paul Robinson thinks otherwise.
Hull are having a storming season under Steve Bruce and the former Manchester United player has them in second place in the Championship, three points clear of Leicester, albeit having played a game more. It's interesting to note though that while they've won two of their last three, those are their only victories in any of their last nine fixtures in all competitions.
This match is the second of a run of three home games for The Tigers and they began it well by beating Derby 2-1 on Tuesday. It did take a late winner to seal the victory though and prior to that they'd lost two and drawn one at the KC Stadium. Again it took a late goal against Leyton Orient in the cup, this time to just avoid defeat, and then they fell to both Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley.
Charlton were promoted to this division after winning League One last year and Chris Powell's side have made an acceptable start to life back in the second tier. They haven't won for three games, but the two defeats they suffered were narrow and they led on both occasions.
On the road The Addicks have picked up six points from a possible nine recently - winning at Watford and Blackburn - and in the wider picture they have lost just three of their last dozen away from The Valley. French import Yann Kermorgant has been in fine form lately and he got his seventh goal of the campaign at Birmingham last time out.
I actually quite fancy Charlton to get the win here and I wouldn't put you off backing them at 4.8 if you were that way inclined. Hull just aren't playing as well as they were earlier in the campaign and at around the 1.89 mark, I have to make them my lay of the day.
