A trio of potential upsets from the fourth round
There were more than a few upsets in round three, and Jaymes Monte is hoping to pick out three more for round four of the FA Cup...
Millwall 2.44 v Aston Villa 3.1; The Draw 3.65
Sometimes when looking for outsiders to back in cup competitions it pays to go against the common consensus. The clamber to oppose Aston Villa at any opportunity has been growing week on week and has now reached its zenith following the Capital One Cup elimination at the hands of League Two Bradford.
But it's gone too far. Paul Lambert's side should not be as big as 3.1 to beat Millwall this weekend. I admittedly suggested opposing Villa in round three against an in-form Ipswich, but that was at odds-on prices. This is still a Premier League side taking on a Championship side, and we're being offered the opportunity to the higher ranked outfit at bigger than 2/1.
In Christian Benteke, Darren Bent and Andreas Weimann, Villa have goals in them, and let's not forget that they did actually win the game against Bradford, plus recorded admirable draws away to Swansea and West Brom recently. It's not all doom and gloom for the Villans.
Hull 1.75 v Barnsley 5.6; The Draw 4.0
Hull host Barnsley this weekend amidst a slightly worrying run of form. Having gone seven matches without defeat the Tigers are now without a win in their last five, and required a replay and extra time to see off Leyton Orient in the third round of this competition.
They've also recently lost an important cog in their machinery with Ahmed Elmohamady being recalled to Sunderland. The Egyptian had started 23 games for Hull this season and his delivery into the box from wide areas will be sorely missed.
Barnsley, on the other hand, travel to Humberside having won two and drawn one of their last three. I wouldn't be too confident in pinning my cash to an away win, but the hosts can certainly be opposed at odds of 1.75.
QPR 1.7 v MK Dons 5.9; The Draw 4.1
This is the second time in two seasons that QPR and MK Dons have crossed paths in the FA Cup. Twelve months ago it took the Premier League outfit 120 minutes of football to come through, as they won the replay 1-0 at Loftus Road after a last-minute equalizer saved The Rs' blushes at stadium:mk.
Although Harry Redknapp has stated that his side will be keen to continue their FA Cup run, what 'Arry says and what 'Arry does aren't always consistent with one another. The priority for Rangers has to be to avoid relegation. And although they are starting to tighten up in the Premier League, other clubs at the foot of the table are also beginning to turn their fortunes around.
MK Dons have already seen off Championship side Sheffield Wednesday in the third round of the FA Cup and, like last season, I think they are capable of at least forcing a replay in this one.
